Political Cartoons
Of course, nothing can happen in the political world without cartoons. The presidential election of 1864 was no exception. Cartoons about Lincoln, McClellan, and their respective parties were drawn in both the Union and the Confederacy, and even in Britain and other European countries. Shown below are three cartoons among hundreds, even thousands, of many others.
Choose one of the above cartoons and explain what you think its message is. Be sure to include the symbolism of any significant objects, who each person is or represents, and if the cartoonist supports Lincoln or McClellan. You do not need to write anything down, but it may help you recall any interesting things you notice.
